Couples Therapy

IN MANHATTAN BEACH

You’ve probably spent years either avoiding, or fighting about, the issues that are causing trouble in your relationship. Couples therapy can change that.

In therapy, you both have a safe space to discuss your struggles, your feelings, your hurt, and your resentment. Most importantly, though, you gain an objective ally who can help you navigate these difficult discussions effectively. You’re able to fully express yourself -- your pain, your needs and desires, and perhaps even your unhappiness -- in an environment that is supportive for both of you.

Common issues that couples bring to my therapy office include:

  • Feeling disconnected from one another

  • Adjusting to parenthood and working together as parents

  • Readjusting your parenting style for a second or third child

  • Healing after years of resentment and arguing

  • Learning how to communicate (and even argue) better as a couple

  • Adjusting to changes in your personal lives or situation and how that has impacted your relationship

  • Understanding one another’s needs and how to support one another, while still taking time for yourselves individually

Relationships, even great relationships, take work. Although you may not hear or see others around you struggling with these problems, they are fairly common.

People are just as wonderful as sunsets if you let them be. When I look at a sunset, I don’t find myself saying, “Soften the orange a bit on the right hand corner.” I don’t try to control a sunset. I watch with awe as it unfolds.
